As you would expect, there’s also lots of rum included! On Christmas Day, many restaurants around the island offer special menus that include many local offerings, for a true Barbados Christmas experience.
Christmas Activities & Traditions
At night, you can drive around the island to take in the beautifully decorated and lit roundabouts and homes. This is a fun activity among locals who are eager to see the new displays each year. You can also attend some of the many Christmas parties and socials filled with Christmas cheer and the warmness of the locals (and lots of rum!). Other popular Christmas activities include Carols by Candlelight, hosted by the Barbados Rotary Club and Christmas Jazz, among others.
On Christmas Day, its tradition for locals to dress in their best clothes and go to church and then head straight to Queens Park after the service. In Queens Park in Bridgetown, persons stroll the park meeting friends and family and take in a live Christmas concert featuring some of the island’s most talented, artists, the Royal Barbados Police Band and other cultural entertainment. It is usually a beautiful and festive experience and sets the tone for the rest of the day.
Bonus – New Year’s Eve
In Barbados, this is commonly referred to as Old Year’s Night. There are many local and fun-filled parties which take place to ring in the new year. If you prefer something quieter, you can lie on a blanket on the beach and watch the elaborate fireworks displays as the clock strikes 12 at the beginning of the new year.
