Barbados is rich in natural beauty and the island offers a wealth of opportunities for the visitor to engage with both landscapes and seascapes.
Gardens
If you love gardens, Barbados is an exotic paradise. Among these, Andromeda Botanical Gardens, Orchid World and Hunte’s Flower Forest are the best-known and are well worth a visit for the astonishing variety of tropical trees, shrubs and flowers, and enchanting water features, gazebos and stonework. The Barbados Horticultural Society has an open house programme for private gems and also holds a popular annual show.
Attractions
Harrison’s Cave is the island’s number one attraction. Then cave’s entrance, which is hidden in a lush gully, leads to a small passenger train from which visitors can see the formations, pools and waterfalls to their best advantage. Close to Harrison’s Cave is Welchman Hall Gully which is home to the Barbados famous green monkeys. If you prefer thrills in the rainforest try the Aerial Zipline for an exhilarating view of the spectacularly beautiful environment.
Safari
For a great overview of the island’s less-visited spots, try a 4×4 safari. An informative and often amusing guide will drive you into the rainforest, up to and along a high ridge and then down to the island’s wild east coast. Among the more modern ways of exploring Barbados, you can now explore the north-east of the island by Segway.
