Cast off the mooring, hoist the spinnaker, and set sail for one of the most anticipated events of the season by sailors and spectators alike. The Old Brigand Rum Regatta will take place in Carlisle Bay starting on Friday, May 5th, and ending on Sunday, May 7th. This Bajan regatta is overseen by the Barbados Sailing Association, an organization whose goals are to promote and support the sport of sailing, with a particular focus on youth sailing and National Representative Coaching.
Last year’s CSA class winner was Ralph Johnson’s Rapajam, whose crew members included Johnson’s six-year-old daughter, Jade, and eight-year-old son, Jason. After a rough start, Ian Myers overcame an injured crewman issue to pilot the Banks Esperanza to first place in the J/24 class, and Doug Graham sailed Mark Mostovac’s 32-foot Jeanneau Attalia Waymar to take first in the non-CSA Class. Here’s to all the local and international sailors participating in this year’s regatta – wishing everyone sunny skies, fair winds, and good courses!
