Barbados Polo Season – January 1st – May 31st, 2019
From the 1800’s, Polo has been a popular sport in Barbados. Today, the sport continues to be highly anticipated among locals and the regional and international teams who visit the island to play during the Barbados Polo Season. These are fun social events, fit for the entire family.
The Barbados Film Festival – January 11th – 20th, 2019
This festival is a full week of fun for filmmakers, producers, actors and lovers of the art. The Barbados Independent Film Festival highlights work from all over the world. It creates a stage for independent films which use storytelling to inform, inspire and entertain. Featured films will celebrate resilience and people’s ability to overcome adversity.
Holetown Festival – February 10th – 17th, 2019
The Holetown Festival began in 1977 as a celebration of the arrival of the island’s first settlers to Holetown in February 1627. During this week-long festival, there are many showcases of Barbadian and culture including folk singing and dancing, street parades, local foods and sports and games among others. Barbados Sailing Week – February 16th – 22nd, 2019
The former Mount Gay Round Barbados Series is now called the Barbados Sailing Week. The tradition of the Round Barbados Race, dates as far back as January 1936 when schooners raced mainly for bragging rights. The headlining race, the 60nm Mount Gay Round Barbados Race, takes place on Errol Barrow Day in Barbados (21st January) – a holiday which celebrates the birthday of the island’s first Prime Minister. In this race, the winning crew gets their skipper’s weight in rum if they break any of the existing 20 records! On this day, crowds of spectators gather at their favourite vantage points to take in the action on the island’s East Coast.
